“Working in an amorous moment...”
Marina Zumi is a Argentinian multi-interdisciplinary artist who originally worked in South American Neo-Muralism, painting nature themes in contrast to the polluted streets around her. Zumi began experimenting with textiles in her studio, where she developed a self taught hand embroidery technique for canvas, linking mathematics and sacred geometry into her work.
Relocating to Berlin in 2018, Zumi decided to combine her outdoor and in-studio practices. She created submersive, site-specific Light Installations, temporary public art pieces, in-studio sculptures and bi-dimensional sculptural artworks. For her installations, Zumi embroiders with neon wires, generating a new relationship between this ancient technique and new digital media technologies, as well as employing video mapping and music. These works encourage the visitor to become part of a new reality. “Connection” is her core theme; “I want to sew the invisible entanglement in between entities, theories, feelings and atoms in the universe; merging into a single point for you to take a break, breathe and feel part of it all”. In 2020 Zumi moved her studio and founded Studio33 in the heart of Berlin by the feet of Viktoria Park, where regularly gives space to other artists.
When working with graffiti in her unique technical style, she creates delicate and gentle images, both on walls and in her studio works. SunSet SunRise, created in 2021, is a spray painted fine art piece that radiates with summer vibes. The smooth gradient, sharp edges, and the translucent interrupted column suspend us for a moment in the surreal. The column here symbolizes the breaking point or break through with your own patterns, beliefs, with an invitation to take a leap into the light...
