Born in Moscow in 1986, artist Vera Kochubey earned her degree from the Moscow State Art School while studying psychology at the National Research University Moscow. She completed a MA in psychoanalysis and cultural studies at International Psychoanalytic University Berlin. Since graduating, Kochubey has been an active exhibitor of her work and shown at many well-known galleries and art shows.
Kochubey moved to Berlin in 2011 to start her journey as a contemporary artist. Her artworks are a vehicle to assess the nature of spirituality and psychology in her world. They consist of metaphysical, psychological, nihilistic, and dramatic visions and statements from the subconscious. Kochubey relies on monochromatic black and white canvases to convey the complexities of our connections and the larger universe. Unafraid to examine the elements of gender and sexual identity throughout her art, Kochubey creates a space for free discussion and contemplation. Recent showcases include ‘Portraits of Someone’ at Rhodes Contemporary Art Gallery in London (2019), New Artist Playground at Pullman Berlin Schweizerhof (2020), and solo show ‘Adult Games’ Kunsthaus Kule in Berlin (2021). Currently, Vera is an artist-in-residence in the legendary Bikini Berlin.

The artwork 'Genius' references the life work of Andy Warhol & Basquiat, who she sees as role models. The phrase, "Everybody's a genius, everybody's a star!" seems like an extension of the philosophy of Warhol, that everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.
