VERA KOCHUBEY is a contemporary artist based in Berlin with a degree in Psychology and Psychoanalysis. Her artworks are metaphysical, psychological and nihilistic; often dramatic visions and statements from a subconscious exploration of “the depth of things”.
Being an artist and queer personality in Moscow seemed impossible so she moved to Berlin in 2011 to establish her artistic career and lives her life as a free spirit. Living in Berlin and experiencing the gay and techno scene stripped her art of everything but brutal lines and punk brushstrokes. The power in her black and white works comes from the deep drums of industrial techno and the urban landscape of the German capital.
‘Truth, Love, Freedom’ is an appeal to manifest these things in everyday life and functions as a spiritual work where you read the words as a mantra over and over again. Vera Kochubey is always absorbing and exploring those so-called rooms or spaces, pouring out their content in the form of her often ritualised work in the form of performances.
